Our Community and Impact

Anyone in the Lower Mainland community that is interested in music is welcome to participate or attend one of our many events.

Clear community benefit
Our program strengthens our community and neighbourly bond using the common interest in music. We often see strangers meet at our program and later become life long friends.

Our choir is often invited back on a semi-regular basis to perform at senior homes during festive seasons and makes many appearances on multi-cultural community events. The choral music we are able to deliver brings smile to our seniors and enriches the sense of community at the multi-cultural events.

Accessibility and inclusiveness
Love for choral music is the only requirement to join our program. Many of our participants have little or no prior musical training. We have members ranging in age from the early twenties to late seventies and we welcome all races and religious backgrounds.

Sustainability and lasting impact

This program has been in existence since 1984, by a group of enthusiastic music-loving Chinese Canadians. Through music, the members express their warm memories and yearning for their homeland. This legacy has persisted for the past 25 years and it is expected to continue. Today, we are no longer yearning for homeland but we are, with the love of music, spreading tolerance, respect and harmony in our community.

Community support
Our program has flourished with the financial support of many local businesses that places advertisements in our concert program and donations from individuals who become the “Friends of Vancouver Chinese Singers.” Many hours of service-in-kind by our members are gratefully received for doing tasks such as photocopying, arrangement for practice hall rental, public relations, advertisement and other day to day businesses.
